After experiencing multiple conflicts with the Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster five-team deal on February 6, 2025. In the aftermath of the trade, NBA analysts raised concerns about Butler’s compatibility with the Warriors’ system. Notably, Stephen A. Smith voiced his doubts, asserting that the Warriors remained “no more dangerous than they were yesterday” following Butler’s arrival.

As Butler seamlessly adapted to the Warriors’ system and began showcasing his dominating skills, Smith recognized his oversight. During a recent episode of NBA Countdown on ESPN, Smith openly acknowledged, “I was wrong” regarding Butler’s impact and the Warriors’ performance this season.

I think I was wrong. Miracles do happen. I think I was wrong when I first talked about this, because I looked at Jimmy Butler and I said, ‘We know what a big-time player he is, particularly in the postseason, but that’s him and Steph (Curry) mesh, I don’t see that.’ Jimmy Butler’s averaging 20 and six.” Smith said.

On February 8, Butler debuted with the Warriors, scoring 25 points in a 132–111 victory against the Chicago Bulls. Since being traded to the Warriors, he has played in six games, and the team has won five out of those six games following his addition to the roster.

Stephen A. Smith Discusses Jimmy Butler’s Impressive Stats

Butler is having an impressive performance in the 2024-25 NBA season. He is averaging 20 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. His shooting accuracy is noteworthy, with a field goal percentage of 46.7%. Butler has demonstrated remarkable proficiency at the free-throw line, boasting an impressive free-throw percentage of 89.1%. This strong performance follows his recent trade to the Warriors, where he quickly became a key contributor to the team’s success. Smith reflects on Butler’s statistics with the Warriors during the same interview.

He’s averaging over nine free throws per game, which is sixth in the league since he arrived at Golden State and hit 87% of his free throws. … When you have a guy who can get to the free-throw line as frequently as Jimmy Butler, what happens next is, you’re giving him (Curry) a break. That, to me, makes Golden State very, very potent.” Smith said.

The Warriors are currently in 9th place in the Western Conference standings with a 30-27 record. They will play their next game against the Charlotte Hornets at Chase Center.

“No arsenal, but ima be a gooner for sure, a sixth fan added.
