After Shakira cancelled two concerts she was going to give in Chile as part of her Las mujeres ya no lloran tour, due to infrastructure problems at the National Stadium in Santiago, the Colombian singer decided to give Chileans a surprise. Before leaving the city, she gave a brief concert in the street to delight her fans.

Shakira gives a concert in the streets of Chile

 

On Monday afternoon, Shakira stepped out of the doors of the Mandarín Hotel, located in the Las Condes sector of Santiago, to surprise her fans, who had gathered early outside the hotel to see her. The singer gave them an unexpected concert before leaving the city.

Before the show began, the Te felicito singer took the opportunity to give autographs and take photos with those present. Surrounded by security and a fence that prevented the public from getting too close, Shakira wanted to compensate her fans for the cancellation of two concerts in the city.

“If you want to sing with me, that will cheer me up. My whole body. I’m going to return to Chile with many more concerts. But for now, at least I wanted to sing this to you,” he said.

With those words, she made the street her stage and, accompanied by her band, offered an acoustic version of Antología , one of her greatest hits. Despite some audio problems, the crowd went wild and sang along with her. Hours after this brief but emotional concert, videos began to circulate quickly on social media.

Hours after the Barranquilla native offered the show, she shared a video on her social networks, where she made it clear that she could not leave the city “without singing to them.” She also promised that she would return to the city soon.

“Chile! I couldn’t leave without singing to you with the promise that I’ll be back very soon. My heart is always with you! Thank you for all your love, unconditional support and for encouraging me so much!” she wrote.

Why did Shakira cancel concerts in Chile?

 

Shakira was forced to cancel her concerts scheduled in Chile on March 2 and 3 due to technical problems unrelated to the production.

The local promoter reported that the stage set-up could not be completed for safety reasons. The ground of the venue had irregularities that put the safety of the attendees and the artist’s team at risk.

“Unfortunately, during the assembly process of the show scheduled for today (March 2), we encountered technical problems beyond the artist’s control (…), since the floor where the stage would be is uneven,” the company Fénix reported in a statement on social media.

The concert, which was scheduled to take place at the National Stadium in the Chilean capital, will be rescheduled and the date will be announced later, they added.

For her part, Shakira regretted not being able to attend these performances, however, she assured that the dates will be rescheduled.

“You, who have accompanied me for more than thirty years, know better than anyone my professional ethics and how hard I strive to always give you the best. So you can imagine how painful it is for me as an artist to see that after so much effort to come to this country that I love so much, my show in Chile on this occasion must be rescheduled due to circumstances beyond my control or my production,” he added.
